JUNIOR GRIZZLIES JAMBOREE SET FOR SATURDAY

FRESNO, CA – The Fresno Grizzlies are proud to announce that the Junior Grizzlies Spring Training Jamboree will take place on Saturday, March 1 at 1:00pm at the ‘Field of Dreams’. Last chance for registration will be held from 11am-1pm before the start of the Jamboree.

Junior Grizzlies, a non-competitive baseball league for children with mental and physical disabilities, is the flagship program of the Fresno Grizzlies Community Fund, the non-profit arm of the Fresno Grizzlies. 2007 marked the league’s first season, with over 120 participants, with that number expected to swell in 2008. “After a wonderful debut of this program in 2007, we’re excited to make the Junior Grizzlies bigger and better in 2008,” said Fresno Grizzlies Director of Community Relations Danielle Cabral. “Last year will be difficult to top, with the construction of the ‘Field of Dreams’, but with greater participation we look forward to seeing the program grow.”

In 2007 the Grizzlies Community Fund built the ‘Field of Dreams’ for the Junior Grizzlies. This special baseball diamond is make out of a rubberized surface that is safe for all participants. The Grizzlies partnered with Clovis Unified School District and Granite Construction to build the one-of-a-kind field at Gateway High School, located at Herndon and Sunnyside in Clovis.

The field, which ultimately cost close to $500,000 to build, was made possible by support from Fansler Foundation, SCJohnson, and St. Agnes Medical Center. In addition to using the field for all Junior Grizzlies games and practices, the field is utilized by CUSD for special education classes and district events.

The Junior Grizzlies Spring Training Jamboree will begin on Saturday, March 1, at 1:00pm. For more information on the program, please visit juniorgrizzlies.org, or call the Fresno Grizzlies community relations department at 559.320.HITS.
